I've got to agree with everyone who gives this five stars on the playing--it's all there, especially the last part of the second set.
The thing that troubles ... me about this audience recording is that it sounds like the two channels are out of phase--really diffuse, with no real center. Unfortunately, I don't have a good way to check that, as my speaker system doesn't do digital right now, and I can't change the phase of one channel on my headphones. Someone should try that and see if it sounds better.

....one of the greatest stretches of music this amazing band ever played. First set's pretty great too.
I agree this AUD is a notch above most, and while ... the SBD available elsewhere is very good, this is a nice companion/comparison piece.
Can't add much to what folks have said about the "Comes a Time" other than the fact that its only rival came five days later (5/9/77) in Buffalo...that one may have a tad better Jerry solo but I'd give the vocal nod to this one.
Also: Keep an ear out for the little "China Cat Sunflower" lick that Bobby throws into "Scarlet Begonias"... it's quick but distinctive and it'll put a smile on your face...then hang on for the rest of an excellent Scarlet>Fire jam.
This is one of those unbelievable shows that nevertheless gets overshadowed by the monsters that immediately followed it in Boston, Cornell, then Buffalo (and all thru May).
But don't miss this one.

I just can't believe how much incredible music this band made on the Spring '77 tour. Up until this point, this was the best show of the Spring. The Terrapin
...
is at the height of its power here, PITB is as good as any from '74 but the knock-me-on-the-floor-and-send-chills-up-my-spine moment is the incredible Comes A Time. Jerry's vocals are simply amazing and the solo is otherworldly - complex and haunting. And if that's not enough, the tantalizing slow return to PITB ratchets up the tension that when they come back full force, it's an almost physical embrace. I love this AUD for putting you right in the middle of it all.

so me and my boy j. moore are soaking this in dead center in the orchestra, and i whisper to him (he's taping this, as he has all the shows) that i think
...
the estimated is the best one yet; he agrees. how about the scarlet>fire? i ask. his head nods, and nods, and nods. we exchange a grin when jerry flubs a few fire vocals, but we quickly lose those, as jerry just SHREDS it. holy mother of god! same for the terrapin - best of the tour so far. playin' sammich with ANOTHER bruce-lee-punch-to-the-guts comes a tIme? come on, now! show some mercy, would ya?
i CANNOT wait for new haven tomorrow night. they are going to rip the roof off the veteran's coliseum for sure!
*****
this is one of the best aud recordings i've heard, particularly pre-superdigital recording. very nice legacy, jerry moore. thanks, bro.

To my mind this is the best among five shows at the Palladium. When I reached this one I was amazed with the second set - it was smooth and so energetic.
...
Nice Scarlet > Fire, inspirational Terrapin and traditional psychedelic jam in Playing In The Band.
But the real jewel there is Comes A Time. In 1977 this song sounded so gentle and mellow! This version gives me chills every time I listen to it. Jerry's jam is phenomenal

This is a show with a great, flowing energy. Every time I listen to the songs I like them more. Dig the beautiful tenderness in Mississippi Half Step,
...
Cassidy, Must Have Been the Roses, and Brown-Eyed Women especially. An 18+ minute Dancin' with really creative improv adds to the sublime flow of this show.
This recording in particular adds a deep, warm sound with real depth. At worst, the audience is a little loud. But at best, you simply ARE THERE --time loses meaning, and the extremely 3-D sound becomes not merely sound but just timeless, lovely music.
All the instruments and voices are clear, and all their tones blend together in what I feel is a very sweet mix. 5 stars. The first set alone will blow you away. Just be sure to treat this recording to some good speakers or headphones. ; )
